Julian Lees is an artist, 3D designer/maker and a former lecturer. In the 1980’s Julian was responsible for co-ordinating the Pre-Degree Foundation course in Visual Arts at Blackburn College.
 
Trained as an artist at Manchester Polytechnic, he has developed a body of work over the last fifty years which is concerned with the experience of “looking”. His multi-disciplinary approach to drawing and painting highlights his innovative combination of both graphic and photographic media. The two main strands to his work are the life model and notions of landscape. Julian has travelled extensively both in the UK and abroad.
 
“My interest is in choices how what and why we select ideas and objects to represent the world we live in. I collect material primarily through the process of looking/drawing finding images that connect with my thoughts and feelings.”
 
Julian considers his work to be a part of an ongoing programme of personal artistic development and expression. The challenge of each blank canvas brings with it a fresh opportunity to ask more questions and make new connections.
 
Julian has exhibited his art in numerous solo and group exhibitions over the years both in UK and abroad.
