Egg Flower by Suthamma Ta Thimkaeo

Oil on canvas

110x80cm

A big congratulations to Mr and Mrs Byrne. They married in a beautifully serene ceremony on Koh Samui; Ta Thimkaeo is now fondly known as Ta Byrne.

Vincent Van Gogh painted his famous sunflowers in an Aryles garden in the glorious South of France. Ta, however, masterfully painted her almost-edible egg flowers on the island of Samui in southern Thailand.

Intrinsically, Ta is drawn to the complex characters of human nature; the figure drawings all have elements of the abstract and surrealism movement and depicted in vibrant colours. Her bold strokes from her trusty palette knife or traditional brushes show emotion through movement or expression. Her innovative use of colour affords an enthusiastic connection.

Mrs Byrne's work is dotted across the world in over fifty countries, a far cry from her humble roots of rural northern Thailand. She never fails to feel honoured when one of her oversized paintings are shipped overseas to adorn and bring life and colour to a wall.

One of Ta's clients once said of her work, "I often wonder why is it that people from around the world acquire Ta's work and speak and write such beautiful things about her art. There has to be something in the painting that makes someone want to hang it on their wall and live with it for a long time".

Ta has a precious gift. There is always something special in the painting that brings it to life. "I look at Ta's work and whatever the painting, People, Lovers, Goddess or Eggs, there is always something special. Something that draws in the eye and you can look at it a thousand times, and you will still notice something different about it, and that's the answer".
